國際商務外語學院蔡雨陽教授獨著論文Metacognitive strategy use in foreign language learning fluctuates from both ends towards the middle: Longitudinal evidence for the Island Ridge Curve在SSCI頂級期刊System線上發表（2022年影響因子6.0，語言類期刊排名7/287）。這是蔡雨陽教授在System期刊上連續發表的第二篇論文，也是繼2020年他在語言類頂級期刊Language Testing發表論文之后的又一篇頂級期刊論文。
該研究通過對香港16所中學2126名學生的元認知策略使用和英語學習成績進行為期三年的追蹤調查，發現很多策略用最多或者最少的學生，到下一年都傾向于轉為均量策略使用者；同時，策略使用中等的學生則大部分仍然保持原狀。有意思的是，策略使用中量的學生同使用量最多的學生取得的英語成績是相似的。該證據表明，中量的元認知策略使用能達到最佳學習效果，過量的策略使用并不能帶來更大的學習收益。該研究首次從動態視角為島脊曲線理論（Island Ridge Curve，簡稱IRC）提供了有力證據。
島脊曲線理論是蔡雨陽教授創立的語言教育心理學理論。島脊曲線理論的核心觀點包含以下三個方面：（1）語言能力發展需經過不同階段；（2）不同階段的學習個體特質對語言學習成績的作用不同，且大部分個體學習特質在中等階段作用最大；（3）個體特質的作用受正負雙極性、黃金中區性和自我調適性三大機制影響。

蔡雨陽,英語語言文學學士（華中師范大學）、課程與教學碩士（加拿大紐芬蘭紀念大學）、語言測評博士（香港大學）。現為上海對外經貿大學國際商務外語學院教授、校語言教育與測評研究中心主任、校學術委員會委員、校卓越碩士生導師、香港教育大學兼職博士生導師、上海市高層次特聘教授。
蔡雨陽教授的研究興趣包括語言測評（主要領域）、教育心理學、及教育測量與統計。蔡教授致力于原創性研究，在語言測評領域提出“動態語言能力系統” 理論（Dynamic Language Ability System, DLAS）, 旨在為開發過程性語言評價提供理論框架；在教育心理學領域提出“島脊曲線理論” （Island Ridge Curve, IRC）獲美國教育學會（AERA）特邀撰文介紹；在教育測量與統計領域開發了多層調節分析模型（Multi-Layered Moderation Analysis, MLMA），旨在為探索事物之間的復雜關系提供有效的分析工具。
蔡教授是全國《醫護英語水平考試》的主要開發者，香港New English Language Proficiency Assessment研發團隊的核心成員，曾任英、美以及國內多家語言測評項目顧問。自2019年入職上海對外經貿大學以來，共發表SSCI期刊論文近40篇，其中以第一（含獨立）作者和通訊作者發表SSCI期刊論文各17篇（共34篇）。研究成果散見于Language Testing, Language Assessment Quarterly, System, British Journal of Educational Psychology 等20多家SSCI期刊。現任The Journal of Asian TEFL 期刊副主編，Educational Psychology 等多家SSCI期刊編委，Applied Linguistics, Language Testing, Contemporary Educational Psychology, Review of Educational Research等40多家SSCI期刊匿名評審。
